How the plan works

The maximum viewing distance grows with the screen: Dmax = 30 ร— height. The fan is split into zones by screen height โ€” too close (to the minimum viewing distance),near (0โ€“10ร—), the sweet spot (10โ€“20ร—, centre = ideal distance) andfar (20โ€“30ร—). The retina distance is where one pixel subtends 1 arcminute (depends on the pixel pitch).

Two cones are drawn: cars (narrow angle that tightens with speed) andpedestrians (wide fixed angle). Dwell time per audience ist = readable stretch / speed; pedestrians stay at 5 km/h.

Disclaimer: readability and dwell are planning estimates for a straight road. Confirm line-of-sight, brightness and local regulations on site.
