About Harman AMX SVSI

Harman AMX SVSI is a JPEG 2000-based AV-over-IP platform for 4K 4:4:4 distribution over 1 GbE enterprise networks.

AMX SVSI’s N-Series encoders and decoders route 4K60 4:4:4 across standard 1 GbE switches, with low latency and independent JPEG 2000 frames. It is a common choice for corporate and government AV.

The bitrate is the raw signal divided by the JPEG 2000 ratio (≈8:1 here). A 1080p30 4:4:4 source is about 1.49 Gbps raw and roughly 187 Mbps compressed, keeping each stream comfortably within 1 GbE.

Worked example

A 1080p30 4:2:0 signal is 746.5 Mbps raw; AMX SVSI’s JPEG 2000 codec compresses it about 8:1, so the stream is about 93.3 Mbps.

They describe chroma subsampling — how much colour detail is kept relative to brightness. 4:4:4 keeps full colour (3× bit depth per pixel), 4:2:2 keeps two-thirds, and 4:2:0 keeps half (1.5×).
