About Christie Terra (SDVoE)

Christie Terra is an SDVoE-based transmitter/receiver system delivering 4K60 4:4:4 with zero-frame latency over 10 GbE.

Terra brings Christie’s projection and display expertise to AV-over-IP, using SDVoE for visually lossless, frame-accurate 4K60 distribution in premium venues and control rooms.

As an SDVoE implementation, the bitrate is the raw signal divided by ≈12:1. A 4K60 4:4:4 source is about 11.94 Gbps raw and roughly 995 Mbps compressed — one stream per 10 GbE port.

Worked example

A 4K60 4:4:4 signal is 11.9 Gbps raw; Christie Terra’s SDVoE codec compresses it about 12:1, so the stream is about 995.3 Mbps on 10 GbE.

Raw is the uncompressed signal (width × height × frame rate × bits per pixel); stream is what the codec actually puts on the wire after compression. The compression ratio is raw ÷ stream.

What do 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 mean?

They describe chroma subsampling — how much colour detail is kept relative to brightness. 4:4:4 keeps full colour (3× bit depth per pixel), 4:2:2 keeps two-thirds, and 4:2:0 keeps half (1.5×).
